Vancouver is Full of Spoiled Brats

$1.3 million; that is the amount of money the City of Vancouver spent for Canucks fans to have closed streets to stand in and big screen televisions to watch the Stanley Cup Finals on. What came after game seven’s loss proved not only that the rioters had no respect for what the city had given them but that they also did not understand the value of a dollar.

You would think that living in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, we would be filled with a sense of pride for everything we can actually afford to own. With every car I saw flipped over, or lit on fire, I thought, “what if that was mine!?” Maybe it’s because I’m in debt, and because I enjoy discussing personal finance, but I can’t imagine doing anything that would cost someone else money. I won’t even go on a road trip, if I know I can’t afford to split the gas 50/50!

The estimated value of the damage has yet to be released but, after watching the windows of a Bank of Montreal be completely smashed out, the Hudson Bay Company’s windows have mannequins thrown through them, and at least a dozen cars (including police cars) flipped over and lit on fire, I can only imagine what the final total will be. And guess who is going to pay for this? Us! The taxpayers!

The sad fact is that you can tell the riot was completely premeditated. With “94, 94, 94,” being chanted through the streets, it was obvious that the group of drunk twenty-something’s wanted nothing more than to be able to say, “I was a part of the 2011 Stanley Cup riots.”

This kid is just one of Vancouver’s spoiled brats and was among those in the first picture of this post. I hope he enjoys his free purse, for the next few days; as soon as he’s found, he’ll be paying for it… and hopefully it’ll cost him more than the price tag.

I think it is unfair to say that Vancouver is full of spoiled brats. Yes there are some. But most of the destruction from last night was done by “anarchists and hooligans” who were there for the sole purpose of rioting.
In terms of damage, the 1994 riots had a damage price tag of $1.1 million. This year, the damage to London Drugs ALONE was well over $1 million.
I didn’t say everyone from Vancouver was a spoiled brat; I said this proved that the rioters don’t know the value of a dollar.
It’ll definitely be interesting to hear what the grand total is…
The whole thing is just ludicrous and insane, and I can’t even begin to think of the dollar value. But to be honest, a little part of me is kind of glad Vancouverites have now taken the heat off of Toronto.
Yea, watching it live last night reminded me of the G20 Summit protesting… that was brutal but was more called-for than what happened in Van… so ridiculous.
That is disgusting, I agree completely. Why are people so terrible in large crowds?
Crowd/mob mentality… totally disgusting.
I was absolutely disgusted yesterday when I was watching what was going on in downtown.
All of these are young men fueled with testosterone, alcohol when they are obviously underage, and fueled also by spectators with their iphones and blackberries recording all the mayhem.
These kids must have parents- and these parents should be VERY VERY ashamed of themselves. I do agree that these kids are all spoiled- they have probably NEVER worked a day in their life. Their parents buy them everything they could ever want, and they really do not know the value of a dollar.
Because of those a**holes, I will likely pay more property taxes next year paying for the mess THEY created.
I am pissed!
And if they’re not spoiled brats, they are the typical (and stupid) f*ck-the-man types.
such crazy pictures. people in earthquake-devastated areas like japan, chile and new zealand must be wondering why these rioters would destroy their city *on purpose*!
Oh yea, some great collages were made of wars that are currently happening all over the world and then the fires and damage done to Vancouver… so ridiculous.
I was having a conversation with my co-workers about this and I just couldn’t understand why anyone would do this! It was like re-living what happened at the G20 all over again. It is disgusting and stupid and accomplishes nothing. At the end of the day, their parents and other tax payers money will have to go to fixing all this. Money that could better spent on providing services that people actually need to survive instead of fixing the stupid actions of a few individuals.
People who do this need to be caught and punished severely. There needs to serious consequences.
Oh, there definitely needs to be some consequences… and the Facebook groups where people are being tagged in pics are awesome.
