Summer is Almost Over and I’m Falling for Fall

denver-in-the-fall

Temperatures dropped dramatically in Victoria, this past weekend, going from highs of 28 to just 18°C (82 to 64°F). While many locals are probably sad to see summer come to an end, I have to admit that fall and winter are my two favourite seasons. More than the fun of digging out all my hoodies and scarves, and spending cold evenings curled up with warm blankets and good books, this year’s fall season is starting off with two trips in one month!

In September, I will only be in the office for 8 days, spending all the others in Denver and Toronto. While the main events of the trips are conferences (#FinCon12 and #CPFC12), I am most looking forward to all of the people I will be spending my time away with.

In Denver, I’m looking forward to rooming with Carrie, my blogging soul sister. If Travis and I don’t get in a few early morning #pfworkouts together, I will probably cry (although I might cry anyway, if I try to keep up with him). I’d love to rent a car and drive up to Boulder to visit Clare. And I am excited to finally meet, connect, and learn with bloggers and businesses from all over that I’ve been in touch with this past year.

Toronto, not surprisingly, feels like my second home and I cannot wait to go back. I’m using all the rest of my vacation time, so I can spend 11 days and nights with my old roomie, her brother, and friends. I’m so excited to see former classmates and their kids. I’d love to catch a Jays vs. Red Sox game. And, again, I cannot wait to meet, connect, and learn with even more Canadian bloggers and businesses.

It’s going to be a great month! And, depending on where the next few months take me career-wise, I may also head down to Seattle for a weekend in October or November. My friend Ellen and I have been talking about going to a Seahawks game for a couple years now and we’ve decided this is the year we finally need to make it happen. Tickets go on sale August 27th!

Am I crazy for wanting summer to end? What’s your favourite season and why?

  1. Early morning #pfworkouts at #fincon12 for #fit4fincon? BRING IT! I get bonus points for using all three hash tags in a sentence too. :) I love all the seasons for different reasons: 1.) spring because things turn green and there’s all of the great weather of the next three seasons to look forward to (and great running weather) 2.) Summer because I like warm weather and being outside 3.) Fall because football season starts (and more great running weather) and 4.) winter because of more football, and playing in the snow with my kids!

    • Great answer, Travis! See you at the gym in two weeks *hides*

  2. Sounds like you have a great September planned! I’m excited for Fall as well, which is weird because I NEVER have been. However this summer has been way too hot, so I’m glad that it’s going to get colder!

    • Love cooler weather! The best is when the sun is out on a cool day :)

      August 22, 2012
  3. wow. have a great time at both conferences and enjoy all your visiting.

  4. Lucky you, sounds like you’re keeping yourself busy!

Obviously you’ll be really busy when you’re in T.O. next month but the next time you’re east let me know, I’d love to meet up for a coffee! :)

    • I’d love to meet up next month! I can’t seem to find your email address… write me!

  5. I cannot WAIT for Fall either-summer has seemed so long this year. I’m so sad I won’t be able to go to FinCon-you are making me jeeeeeealous

    August 20, 2012
  6. I’m jealous that I don’t get to go to Fin Con :( But maybe next year (or the next…)!

I’m a fan of fall or winter. I don’t mind summer or spring but I love the crispness in the air and late fall or early winter really has that.

    August 20, 2012
    • Ooo, I love that too. And fallen leaves. Lots of ‘em.

      August 22, 2012
  7. Well we don’t get much of a fall in LA, but I know I loved fall when I lived in the midwest, when the air was fresh and crisp. I know a lot of people have been suffering all summer from the horrible heat, so I’m sure you will get a lot of people who will agree with you. Again, totally jealous you are going to Fincon!

    • Wish you were coming! Maybe next year :)

  8. I’m actually NOT ready for summer to end this year, though usually I am since Fall is also my favourite season (and October my favourite month!)… however I LOATHE winter (unless I’m skiing or tubing ;) , so I’m not quite ready for what comes after fall. I’m also a sucker for fall fashion – :. I am not allowed in malls until like November ;)

    • Sounds like you live in the wrong city, hehe. Winter is great here because it hardly ever snows and sits at an average of probably… 5°C? But I hear you on being a sucker for fall fashion! I’ve bought a few things online that were on sale but have to stop there.

  9. I’m right there with you. I’m so over this heat and looking forward to fall and cooler weather! I’m super stoked about seeing you and everyone else at FinCon. :) I didn’t have a roommie last year since it was so last minute for me. So this time I’m really excited about it!

Enjoy your stay here in T.O. this September at cpfc12. The weather is turning cool these days and the CNE is in full swing, signaling the end of summer here. My fave time of year is in the spring, especially after a cold dreary winter. Everything is green and fresh and people’s spirits always seem to be high!

    August 20, 2012
    • Is there green in Toronto? I was there February-April last year and only say grey… cement! ;)

      August 22, 2012
  11. Autumn is my favorite season but I’m trying not to wish away summer too quickly lest I regret it in the winter ;)

    August 20, 2012
    • I don’t think I could handle an Alberta winter!

      August 22, 2012
  12. After all the heatwaves we’ve been experiencing, I am actually looking forward to summer ending. I love autumn because of the cooler weather and the leaves turning colour. You can still do a lot of outdoor activities in the fall. I love the fall foods such as pumpkin and squash. A couple of autumns ago (it sounds weird, but I think a couple of falls ago sounds even weirder), the bf and I took a fall hike at a nearby conservation area. He made pumpkin/squash soup and brought it for the hike in a thermos. I totally want to do that again!

    August 20, 2012
    • That sounds delicious! And like a great afternoon activity for fall. I might have to keep that in mind!

      August 22, 2012
  13. I’m still not done with summer. Sure I could do with the crazy heat and sunburns but I feel like fall/winter lasted 11 months, and I’m not ready to say goodbye to summertime!

    August 20, 2012
    • Soak up the sun, girl!

      August 22, 2012
  14. I love fall. It’s always been my favourite-the leaves, the cool mornings and evenings with warm days, the back-to-school stuff (even though I’m finally done school!) I don’t wish summer away, because I’m not a big winter person, but I do relish the first signs of fall when they come :) Enjoy your very exciting September!

    August 21, 2012
    • I always loved back-to-school stuff, as well. Thanks, Sarah!

      August 22, 2012
  15. I love fall: apple cider, chilly nights, sweaters, hats, coats, and then it’s winter and I can go Snowboarding! I live in Colorado. Hope to meet everyone at FinCon in Denver. See you soon.

    August 21, 2012
    • Mmm, I forgot about apple cider! And pumpkin spice lattes. See you soon!

      August 22, 2012
  16. I am excited for winter and the snow. In the UK the days get shorter and the nights a lot longer! (we have long days in the summer) which believe it or not is a nice change! There is nothing better than suprise days of work because the weather is unsuitable to travel :D

    August 22, 2012
    • We change our clocks here and have the same effect, Scot! By November, it’s dark out at 5pm… I like to call it hibernation season. ;)

      August 22, 2012
  17. You definitely aren’t crazy. My favourite season is fall. It’s the best season to run and ride horses in, it’s the season that my birthday and my anniversary are in, and it leads up to Christmas, what’s not to like? This fall I’m heading to Halifax with my fiancée as well, and, like Toronto for you, it’s our second home, so we can’t wait.

    August 22, 2012
  18. Ah you’re in Victoria, I went there a few years ago to visit some family, it was so extremely beautiful!! Such beautiful forests, great hiking, beautiful views and homes everywhere. My only complain was my constant car-sickness, too many hills for driving! :P I cannot wait for September this year either, Fall is my favourite season and this is the first year I won’t be in school, so I’m excited. Sounds like yours will be pretty great.

    August 22, 2012
  19. We don’t have much of a fall season down here, which I kind of miss. It’s so beautiful in Michigan when the leaves start changing, and there’s apple picking and cider and donuts and cool weather… I am excited for it to cool off, even if we don’t have the corresponding autumn “stuff”. Today it was 88F (~31C) and that was a nice day compared to the heat we’ve had! I can’t wait until it gets cool enough to wear long sleeves!!

I hope you have a great time on your trips!

    August 22, 2012
  20. Fall is the best. I love it. I’m a cool weather type of person and after this hot, dry summer we’ve had, I’m absolutely ready for it. Fall is also fair time around here, which is so much fun.

    See ya’ in T.O. :)
