Writer’s Block + A Guest Post
When I was still in school, I always knew I was procrastinating starting a new assignment or writing a paper, if I was excited to spend an entire Saturday doing laundry, cleaning, vacuuming, cooking or baking. Apparently that behaviour has stayed with me, but is now how I react to having writer’s block.
Over the weekend, I made a crockpot full of vegetarian chili, a quiche, and a dozen oatmeal chocolate chip muffins. Sure, meal planning will help my budget this week… but I think I was just keeping my hands busy in the kitchen, because I had nothing to write here.
I did still, however, manage to draft up two posts for Thursday and Friday, which will have January’s final numbers and a fresh, new budget for February. And those were easy to write! What is it about writing a new budget that is so exciting!? I can tell you that, even a year or so ago, I never would’ve found that “fun”.
Oh, that reminds me. I wrote a guest post for Jordann’s blog that explains exactly how I started budgeting in the first place. If you’re curious to see how this all started, make sure you go read it. Or you can just continue to drool while you look at all of the food that is waiting for me in my kitchen…
Happy Monday, friends!

Me-thinks I’ll just continue to drool. Us retired folks tend to do that more I hear.
Any chocolate chip muffins left over for your blog readers?
There are so many muffins leftover!
Great ! I’ll be right over to your place with our Timmies double double !!!
It sounds like you had a really productive weekend with the cooking!! I did a lot of cleaning too, but I wish I would have done more writing gerrrr. I’m with you on budgeting being fun. When it’s the end of the month and I get to see how I did, I get all excited. Nerds unite!
Yes! #nerdsunite
I love fresh new budgets! I also want to learn a new chilli recipe for a crockpot. I need to wait till feb when I can buy new groceries. lol!
Mine’s simple: a big can of diced tomatoes, a can of kidney beans, a can of black beans, chopped mushrooms, green pepper, corn (which I forgot), garlic and chili powder. I don’t eat meat, so I added in some veggie ground (fake meat). Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Done and done!
Totally impressed (and a tad jealous!) by all that delicious food you made! Yummy. I still haven’t figured out cooking and taking care of a baby, so our dinners have been less than awesome lately haha! Corn dogs, anyone?
And I totally feel ya on the new budget thing. Each month is a new slate, and I get kind of giddy about it!
Aww, you guys’ll find time to do a little cooking soon. If you have a crockpot, try to make a couple bulk meals, like I did! You know… if you can manage to pull yourself away from New Baby Girl smell.
Mmm everything looks delicious! Good job on drafting 2 posts – that’s the most productive writers block I think I’ve ever seen.
Haha, well they weren’t very exciting posts… but thanks, Chelsea!
Feel free to idly make me food anytime
I always feel like baking on Friday evening… when I should feel like it on Sunday, so that I can pawn it all off at work.
Oh, I’ll send some right over.
I am looking forward to reading about the new budget, but then again I love to budget.
Loved the guest post today btw.
Thanks, John!
Great guest post, especially the “Ignore all Other Rules” section. Sometimes you have to find out on your own what works the best for you.
Thanks, Lyndsay! Happy Monday
I can say that I get excited when we draw up a new budget because it’s new and we may have made changes that we are hoping to see work for us. I’m going to go check out your guest post. Looking forward to your new fresh budget! Cheers Cait. Mr.CBB
Thanks, Mr. CBB! Hope you have a great week.
